Frenectomy in NYC

The small tissue attaching the gums to the inner lips and cheeks is called a frenum. At times these attachments cause pulling on the gums when the cheeks or lips are moved (ie brushing, eating or speaking). Over time these pulls cause the gums to recede or shrink away from the tooth. A frenectomy is a procedure where the frenum is repositioned so as not to cause a pull. It is a simple procedure with little to no post-surgical discomfort. Dr. Froum performs these procedures under local anesthetic so there is no pain and uses thin self-dissolving sutures to avoid pain and swelling.
